Avaaz is a civic organization that is situated in the United States of America. The name is derived from the Persian word, “Avaaz,” which means voice in several European, Asian and Middle Eastern languages. The organization was started and launched in 2007 with the aim of closing the gap that usually exists between the world we have and the world that everybody wants. It seeks to achieve this by bringing together people towards a common cause and more information click here.
The group encourages people from all over the world to act on issues that emerge every single day. Being a certainty that the world is full of imperfections, Avaaz yearns to change that to a place that every citizen will and can be proud to call home. To achieve that goal, it addresses issues like climate change, poverty, conflict, human and animal rights and even corruption.
Working together towards a common goal or cause is one of the fastest and easiest ways of solving major issues. Avaaz has an online platform that connects people from all over the world. Through the activist network, individual efforts can be made and bringing together of millions of efforts results in a dominant force and what Avaaz knows.
The organization campaigns in 15 languages, six continents and has very many volunteers. Avaaz is unique as it operates with a single team, unlike various groups that it split into various structures with each structure addressing a different issue. Avaaz is not issue-specific because of having a sole team that works on any public matter and thus allowing innumerable campaigns of all kinds. And because of ideological difference, the group lets its members participate in a campaign of their choice, and thus avoiding internal feuds. Furthermore, Avaaz is member-funded. It, therefore, does not accept donations from governments or groups. This also means that the group is answerable to itself and not obliged to acting according to a government’s or a groups’ idea and Avaaz’s lacrosse camp.
