Easily recognized by her flamboyant fashion and brilliant makeup, Doe Deere is an entrepreneur that stands out in a sea of hopefuls. With a slew of Instagram followers and a thriving business, she has garnered the coveted title of one of the “Top Inspiring Female Entrepreneurs” by Self-Made magazine.
In an interview with Guest of a Guest (http://guestofaguest.com/los-angeles/interview/interview-lime-crimes-doe-deere-on-how-to-make-your-dreams-come-true&slide=1 ), Ms. Deere describes the experiences that shaped her, as well as giving soul affirming advice to those innovators who would dare to dream big.
Originally from Russia, Doe has described herself as having always been creative, always painting and drawing as a child. Subtlety has never been her game. She has always had a love of color, as well as flamboyant makeup and clothes. Her business sense kicked in early. She recalls that at the age of 13 she was already selling temporary tattoos. At the age of seventeen, Doe moved to New York where she spent the next fourteen years. She resided mainly in Brooklyn and Manhattan and currently lives in Los Angeles.
Doe always dreamed of being a musician and so that is just what she did when she moved to New York all those years ago. She credits that time for learning marketing skills that have served her business well ever since. Since then she has been a clothing designer, and most recently, a makeup mogul. For her, makeup and fashion are inseparable.
In 2004, Doe started her fashion company under the name “limecrime” on ebay. She modeled her clothes and wore colorful makeup to accent it. However, it was difficult to find colors that were bright enough and her makeup line Lime Crime was born as a result.
To those that aspire to do great things, Doe advises to always “follow your heart”. It is important to know yourself, she says, to “be in touch with yourself”. As a child, she always felt out of place and different but through her business, she discovered there were others like her in the world. She felt different, but she was not alone. She was bold, and as a result, she found others that loved what she loved, ultimately catapulting her brand to success.
