Dr. Mark Holterman Achieves New Discoveries

Dr. Mark Holterman is a pediatric surgeon, who was raised in Wisconsin. One of his teachers encouraged him to consider attending Yale University, despite neither of his parents attending college. Dr. Holterman completed undergraduate studies atYale University and medical school at the University of Virginia. He was attending medical school at the University of Virginia to become an pediatrician. While attending the University of Virginia he met Ai-Xuan, an aspiring surgeon. Dr. Holterman’s interest in becoming a pediatrcian and Ai-Xuan’s desire to become a surgeon inspired the two to combine their passions and become pediatric surgeons. They later married and had three children.

Focusing on Medical Advancement

Today, Dr. Holterman is now a professor and a pediatric surgeon. He is also an advocate for regenerative medicine and stem therapy. Dr. Holterman supports cell therapy because it boosts the body’s ability to fight disease and heal itself. When an injury occurs within the body the cells move to the injured part of the body and give direction for when to begin the healing process. Fat is taken from one part of the body to help repair the other injured parts of the body. Thus creating a solid support system to avoid having the whole body shut down because one part is unable to function. In other words, the cells work together to keep the body whole. Cell therapy is able to treat alopecia, psoriasis, and bone disorders.

Dr. Holterman also supports the International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam.  The Alliance works to improve the healthcare system by supplying the proper tools and education that will make for successful treatment of the Vietnamese children. They award current medical scholars $2,500 to come to the United States to receive the proper education. At the end, the selected individuals provide a presentation explaining what they have learned. They are also tasked with explaining how they will put the information into practice at their institution when they return.
